One of the hardest things to explain to people who haven’t experienced VR before themselves is ‘what it is like’ it could definitely be argued that the only way is to actually go into VR, but failing that, creating mixed reality footage is probably the next best way to give people an idea.

Below is a tutorial of one of our first tests of recording footage from the HTC Vive and mixing it with real world footage, in this tutorial we run through the camera set up screen recording and the compositing process used.

The GoPro used for this first test was a Hero3+ recording at 1080p 60fps Wide on a tripod at a distance of 1.5 metres from the Vive user.

This very early test footage was from a game called SteamHammerVR
